When I was little, I wanted to be a writer more than anything. I used to make little books out of construction paper and draw lines for where the words would go when I learned how to write. My brother would sometimes grab one of these little books and laugh and say, “That’s not a book! There aren’t any words!” But I knew the words would come, and they did.

As a writer, my favorite thing is tapping into other people’s enthusiasm. If you talk to someone long enough and listen, you’ll hear what they care about. They get excited about some idea or event you didn’t anticipate, and you realize they just pointed the way to a great story. When they’re your employees or customers, it’s probably a story you need to tell.
